The Cocoa Cracker project was undertaken as part of the ME 270 course at Iowa State University. The objective of the project was to identify a problem in a developing country and propose a machine-based solution. Our team focused on addressing the issue of injuries associated with the traditional method of splitting cacao pods to access the beans used in chocolate production.

Our approach involved designing a specialized machine that could effectively eliminate the risk of injuries during the cacao pod splitting process. The project encompassed several key stages, including the initial design phase, 3D modeling, calculations, manufacturing, and testing.

Upon completion of the project, we had the opportunity to showcase our machine at the Design Expo. Notably, our machine received recognition and was selected for display in the building, while other groups were required to disassemble their machines. This achievement highlighted the effectiveness and ingenuity of our design solution.

Overall, the Cocoa Cracker project served as a platform for addressing a real-world problem using engineering principles. It showcased our team's dedication and ability to develop a practical machine-based solution, contributing to the improvement of traditional cacao processing techniques in a sustainable manner.
